Multiple Chemical Sensitivity

Living in the modern world is very difficult for people who suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). Generally speaking, MCS refers to an unusually severe reaction to a low exposure of chemicals, pollutants and/or solvents. Simply put, those who suffer from MCS experience an excessive or severe reaction to everyday pollutants found in our modern environment.

In the “natural world” and among indigenous cultures, MSC and symptoms associated with chemical exposure are unheard of. Among residents of industrialized nations, studies indicate 16-33% of the population experience “unusually sensitive or allergic reactions to chemicals.” Studies in Europe and the United States conclude that chemical sensitivity is of “global concern”. The most commonly cited triggers are:

  • Pesticides

  • Cigarette, wood and other sources of smoke

  • Air pollution

  • Paint fumes

  • Wood preservatives

  • Food additives, colorings and flavorings

  • Mercury amalgams from dental restorations

  • Photocopier fumes

  • Perfumes

  • Formaldehyde found in engineered wood, insulation, personal care products, and other consumer products

  • Isocyanates found in polyurethanes, insulation and other consumer products

  • Epoxy and other glues

  • Drugs

  • Gasoline and petroleum fumes

Symptoms associated with MCS are broad, ill defined and vary from patient to patient. Most patients with MCS report experiencing several symptoms from the list below:

  • Burning and stinging eyes

  • Wheezing, breathlessness and nausea

  • Extreme fatigue and lethargy

  • Headache, migraine and dizziness

  • Confusion, slurred speech, and loss of focus

  • Anger, irritation or mood swings

  • Poor memory and concentration

  • Chronic runny or congested nose

  • Sore throat and cough

  • Sinusitis and Post-nasal drip

  • Skin rashes and itchy, bumpy skin

  • Sensitivity and/or intolerance to light and noise

  • Sleep disturbances

  • Digestive disturbances

  • Fibromyalgia, muscle and joint pain.

While the “average” person may have little to no reaction from the environmental substance, the individual who suffers from MCS reports:

  • Allergy-like reactions to both large and exceedingly small levels of irritant;

  • The problem is ongoing and not a “one-time” event;

  • The same symptoms are reproducible with repeated exposure to the same irritant;

  • Multiple chemical or environmental agents can trigger symptoms;

  • Symptoms improve when exposure is removed.

Because the “average” person can tolerate moderate to low exposure to environmental chemicals with no adverse reaction, the diagnosis of MCS with conventional medical tests has proven difficult. If timed closely with exposure to the environmental substance, standard immune function tests may show abnormalities. Some medical specialists recommend tests of the central nervous system, peripheral nervous system, T-cell subsets and antibodies for autoimmunity be performed as well as studies of nose, sinus and pulmonary function. When four of seven systems show abnormality, the diagnosis of MCS is supported. Once MCS is diagnosed, the standard of conventional medical care is avoidance.

There is an alternative to costly diagnostic tests and the avoidance of the chemical environment. Advanced Allergy Therapeutics is a clinically-proven, highly effective treatment for the elimination of symptoms associated with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities. With no needles, no shots, no drugs and no avoidance- Advanced Allergy Therapeutics can restore an individual’s tolerance to the everyday chemical world abundent in our food, air, water and environment. Live allergy-free life in the modern world with out adverse reactions or symptoms.
